Today marks the beginning of Thanksgiving weekend, and the RCMP and RNC will be out on the roads as part of Operation Impact.
The annual enforcement blitz focuses on what police call the four most significant factors in serious and fatal collisions: impaired driving, distracted driving, dangerous driving, and not wearing a seatbelt or wearing one incorrectly.
Over this weekend the two police forces will increase enforcement and setup checkpoints to make sure people are following the rules.
Anyone who suspects a driver is an immediate threat to road safety is asked to call 911 immediately and, if they can, provide information about the vehicle and driver – including the licence plate number and the direction in which they are travelling.
