Holy Cross Avalon Ford captured the Breen’s Jubilee Trophy championship yesterday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over CBS Kirby United in a hotly contested match. Kirby dominated the first half of the game with multiple chances. Holy Cross showed why they had a perfect 15-0 record heading into the final during the second half.
Goals were scored at the nine minute mark by Holy Cross’ Teri Murphy off a corner kick by Maria Mackey, at 26 minutes in by Kirby United’s Malorie Harris, and then at 76 minutes in Kirby United scored on their own goal.
The tournament MVP was Sydney Walsh of Kirby United, and the tournament’s most spirited player went to Jane Pope of Holy Cross. It should also be noted that Malorie Harris is the second highest scorer in Jubilee Trophy Nationals during the last two decades with 29 points.
