The province’s aquaculture industry is about to get bigger.
Northern Harvest Sea Farms is embarking on a $6-million dollar expansion to its Stephenville salmon hatchery.
The company is looking to increase its production capacity by an additional 1.5 million smolts, or 6 thousand tonnes of harvested product, each year.
The announcement was made this morning in Stephenville. Premier Dwight Ball and Fisheries Minister Steve Crocker were on hand.
The company is also planning to develop four new feeding systems, valued at $2 million dollars each.
