Customers at the Rocket Bakery in St John’s were surprised this morning when the cast of an upcoming theatrical production took over the popular spot to serve up some sweets and promote the show.
Cast members of the comedy production “Tartuffe” were out in full character interacting with Bakery patrons in order to bring attention to the play which tours arts and culture centres across the island next week. Characters served up a one-of-a-kind Rocket Bakery creation called the Tartuffie to help celebrate the show.
The play, loosely adapted and translated by Andy Jones, brings together several accomplished performers including Robert Joy and Greg Malone under the direction of Jillian Keiley.
Keiley says getting the characters out of the auditorium and into the streets is an exciting way to get the word out about next week’s opening. She says the stunt was well received and all had good fun.

Keiley says patrons got a kick out of meeting the characters and tasting something sweet. She laughed when recalling when the Preacher character, played by Robert Joy, came downstairs and encouraged everyone to eat their “soul-absolving” dessert.
