A young music teacher in Clarenville has passed away after a battle with mental illness.
Victoria Best was open and articulate about her illness. The 27-year-old music teacher had a huge following on Facebook. One of her last posts highlighted that Christmas is the most difficult and dangerous time of year for people who are battling a mental illness.
St. John’s City Councillor Maggie Burton, who went to music school with Best, says she was warm and articulate, and became a fabulous musician.
Burton says Best did get help, but sometimes healthcare professionals didn’t address her mental illness because she was a high-functioning person who seemed to have it all together.
Donations are being accepted in her memory in benefit of the Clarenville Area SPCA or Canadian Mental Health Association, Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter.
