  • Amendments to Add Family Violence Leave to Labour Standards Act

It’s something that anti-violence advocates and the Federation of Labour have been calling for for some time.

The provincial government has announced the introduction of amendments to the Labour Standards Act to introduce Family Violence Leave.

The amendment received second reading in the House of Assembly today.

Minister of Labour, Al Hawkins made the announcement along with Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, Siobhan Coady.

President of the Federation of Labour, Mary Shortall has lobbied for the changes for some time. She applauds the move.

She says it will allow workers to take the time they need without having to worry about losing their jobs, and employers will be able to ensure that the workplace remains safe.
