A humpback near Clarenville is the latest whale to be rescued by one of the the oldest whale disentagling programs in the world.
Whale Release and Strandings Newfoundland and Labrador was called to Harcourt in Random Sound near Clarenville on Friday morning.
Local fisherman had noticed a whale stuck in fishing gear just off the coast.
Whale Release and Strandings’, Julie Huntington, says it was a lively rescue.
She says the group worked for three hours to free the whale from the gear before it swam away.
Huntington says this year has been especially busy for the group.
