Automated Garbage Collection is on the horizon in the City of St. John’s, however residents should be aware that they will have to reduce the number of bags thrown away each week.
The Chair of the Public Works Committee, Danny Breen, hopes people will help council decide on which bins to purchase once automated collection begins.
There are two options to choose from and both will mean a reduction in the current ten bag per week limit. The large size 360L cart holds 5-6 bags of garbage and is the model used in Mount Pearl and Paradise for their automated program.
The second option is the medium sized 240L cart that houses 3-4 regular bags of garbage.
Breen says people should recycle more, and think about what they are throwing out each week.
