The backhoe bandits have struck again, this time in Portugal Cove near the ferry.
Somebody commandeered a piece of heavy equipment, possibly from the town council of Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, and busted into The Landings, a restaurant. Similarly with most recent incidents, the thieves got away with the ATM. The section of the building where the bank machine was located was heavily damaged.
The incident happened at about 3:00 Monday morning.
Two Paradise men have been charged in relation to a similar crime at the BMO on Newfoundland Drive a few weeks ago.
41-year-old Cory Quilty and 40-year-old Jamie Kennedy were cited in the St. John’s robbery, but nobody has yet been arrested for the Portugal Cove heist.
