The Stephenville-based builder of so-called tiny homes says he supports the efforts of a Pouch Cove couple who have an application before their town council to have their 360-square foot home approved.
The minimum size for a dwelling in the town’s municipal plan is 840 square feet.
Shawn Hickey has been building tiny homes for some time and has just sold his first home in Stephenville, with three more being built.
He says he’s been in contact with Jess Puddister and has been supporting her in her efforts in Pouch Cove.
Hickey says the small homes are becoming increasingly popular.
He says he has a woman from St. John’s who is coming to Stephenville to buy two plots of land for mini-homes for she and her mother because they get it in the capital city. He says the first home they built was 10×24 and is 240 square feet.
Hickey told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that the homes sell on-average for $85,000 on a 25×100 piece of land.
