A well-known Newfoundland businessman has passed away following a lengthy illness.
Geoff Tooton passed away at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax on Tuesday. He was 67.
Tooton joined the family photo business and helped it to grow in the province and in Nova Scotia. He had to reinvent himself with the demise of the traditional photo industry, and held a number of public and private sector positions with the provincial government, Irving Oil, Convergys and the Business Development Bank.
He also served as president of both the St. John’s Board of Trade and the Rotary Club.
Tooton was also a member of the St. John’s Athletics Association and ran in several marathons.
A visitation and service will be held this summer in St. John’s at a time yet to be announced. Interment will take place at the St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cemetery in CBS.
