Cabin owners on the Avalon Peninsula are up in arms over notification they’ve received from the Eastern Regional Service Board concerning garbage collection which is set to begin next year.
Cabin owners are being asked to pay a fee of $180 a year for service which will begin in May of 2017.
The Open Line shows have been inundated with calls from angry property owners, wondering why they have to pay for a service which many say they don’t even need.
St. John’s city councillor Danny Breen is on the Eastern Regional Service Board. He says a review of the province’s waste management strategy is underway, but it’s not clear if that will have any impact on the fee for cabin owners.
He says the board is simply meeting the mandate set out by the province.
