Premier Dwight Ball has filled the ministerial positions that were added on to other members of cabinet after MHA’s Dale Kirby and Eddie Joyce were asked to leave the Liberal Party back in April.
While Kirby and Joyce were never found guilty of all the bullying and harassment allegations leveled against them, the possibility of their return to cabinet isn’t looking good.
The Premier announced the swearing in ceremony yesterday afternoon with only an hour’s notice. The shuffle saw Bernard Davis MHA for Virginia Waters-Pleasantville become the Minister responsible for Advanced Skills Education and Labour. The move lightens the workload for Minister Al Hawkins and allows him to focus on the Education portfolio, a role he accepted when Kirby was ousted.
The member for Labrador West, Graham Letto, has taken over the role as Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, formerly held by Joyce.
Premier Dwight Ball says he has reflected on the circumstances and made a decision regarding who he wants to surround himself with moving forward. Ball says this is his cabinet and the group he will move forward with. He points to some of the fresh faces he has brought on board and he says this is the team to take the Liberals into 2019.
