The Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides NL is renewing its call for a more comprehensive ban on the use and sale of toxic pesticides in the province. VOCM’s Linda Swain reports.
CAP-NL’s statement comes following the release of a new report from the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment on pesticide regulation in the country.
The national report says that residents in this province have “very limited protection from pesticides”. The regulations cover only five active ingredients that are used on lawns alone.
CAP-NL is calling on the provincial Environment Minister to created a more comprehensive list of pesticides, ensure an improved ban on toxic pesticides is sufficiently broad and includes more than just lawns. They also ask that government create new regulations addressing pesticides used indoors among other things.
