A crossing guard who last year was named the best in Canada, says this week’s cold temperatures are the worst he’s experienced since becoming a crossing guard five years ago.
Dave Ennis helps Rennies River Elementary students across the road at Elizabeth Avenue. The retiree says standing around in the cold this week has required some special measures.
He’s dressing in layers and has the benefit of a warm winter jacket.
He says the public have been very kind as well.
He had a parking enforcement officer who offered him a well-appreciated coffee yesterday afternoon to help him deal with the cold.
He says the youngsters he’s worked with appear to be well-bundled up.
