Construction companies have had to step up in terms of new policy since legalization of cannabis last October.
Dr. Farrell Cahill of Horizon Occupational Health Solutions spoke at the NL Construction Association Conference last week.
He says it’s important that companies have proper policies in place that not only protect the workplace, but also respects workers’ rights.
However, it’s still too early to say if there’s been an increase in impairment.
Cahill says data out of Colorado and Washington when they enacted legalization showed a 25 per cent increase in workplace-related incidents and detection, so he would predict a higher frequency for a nation-wide roll out, but it’s still too early to say.
