  • Car Fire, Downtown Smoke Keeps Fire Crews Busy

Firefighters with St. John’s Regional responded to two fires last evening.

Crews with Kent’s Pond Station were called to a vehicle fire on Ridge Road at about 8:00 on the parking lot of Marine Institute.

They found an Audi sedan in flames.

The driver of the car escaped uninjured, however the vehicle was extensively damaged.

Then, shortly before 10:00 crews from several stations responded to a structure fire at 155 Water Street. Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the building.

A ladder was used to get to the roof where it was confirmed the smoke was coming from a chimney. Firefighters remained on scene until a property manager arrived to shut down a malfunctioning furnace.
