The province’s English School District has confirmed that a 47-year-old Carbonear woman who was killed in a collision between a school bus and an SUV yesterday was an area teacher.
The 47-year-old victim was the driver of the SUV that collided with a school bus yesterday on the Veterans Memorial Highway between Makinsons and Roaches Line.
The bus was carrying about 12 children, one of whom received a minor injury. The driver of the bus was not injured.
In a statement to VOCM News, The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District says that crisis response teams, counselling and educational psychologist support is being offered to students and staff at four local schools. They are Roncalli Central High in Avondale, St. Francis School in Harbour Grace, Carbonear Academy, and Carbonear Collegiate.
The District says this is a very difficult time for each of these school communities and says thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family and friends of the individuals involved.
Veterans Memorial Highway was closed for about four hours from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. while police attended to the scene.
