The Mayor of Conception Bay South is pleading with people to follow the rules when it comes to the use of all terrain vehicles.
No longer a rural area, CBS is the second-largest municipality in the province with about 450 km of linear road off the main highway—Route 60. But people still ride their ATVs on roads, which now lead to sprawling subdivisions instead of vegetable gardens.
Two men were charged Sunday evening after operating ATVs outside of an approved area, operating without insurance and imprudent driving. One of those drivers was also charged with resisting arrest and breaching court orders.
Mayor Terry French says there are areas in town where people can go with their off-road vehicles, but their choices are limited primarily to the Pasturelands between the town and the TCH.
He says a committee charged with the task of coming up with a linear ATV trail parallel to the main highway is still in its infancy, but they are working toward that goal.
