It’s a far cry from what the province was saying about libraries a year ago.
The site for the new Conception Bay South Library was revealed today in a joint announcement of the town, province and library board.
It’s been a long time coming. The library plan has been moving forward in one form or another since 1987. It will be a state-of-the-art accessible facility near the town hall, and Lions Club.
The province will be providing $195,000 in funding for the project over several years. Education Minister Dale Kirby says the new library was always going forward, even during the fallout of Budget 2016.
CBS Mayor Steve Tessier says they are hoping to see construction begin in the Spring.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader and MHA for Topsail-Paradise Paul Davis says Minister Kirby’s support for the library is a turnaround from how he was speaking about it in 2016.
Davis says while it’s good news the library is moving forward, the official announcement was short on detail.
