St. John’s City Councillor Wally Collins didn’t have much to say about the sexual harassment allegations he is facing as last night’s council meeting concluded.
An independent investigator has been called in to look at all aspects of the charge, and to report back to council. There is no indication as to how long that will take.
Collins arrived just after the starting bell rang and surprisingly agreed to make a comment afterward. Collins says he is now seeking legal counsel.
In a statement, Mayor Dennis O’Keefe said he learned of the allegation late last week and hired the investigator as per the city’s Workplace Human Rights by-law.
Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth addressed the issue with media and couldn’t say how long the investigation will take. He says council wants to move as quickly as possible but also wants it done right. He says the timeline is up to the investigator.
