St. John’s city council’s Committee of the Whole voted for approval-in-principle on six proposed traffic pilot projects for this year.
They include removing traffic lights and reconfiguring traffic at Rawlins Cross, guide islands at Freshwater Road and Pennywell Road, Cookstown Road and Field Street, curb extensions at Military Road and Kiwanis Street, and at Terra Nova Road and Wishingwell Road and neighbourhoood street art painting at Tree Top Drive.
Council will vote on final approval during the regular city council meeting.
Traffic lead Debbie Hanlon says public opinion is a vital component of evaluation of the pilot projects. An engagement strategy will be put together to gather public input and a report will be submitted to council making recommendations for permanent traffic improvements.
