A five-year-old girl from Clarenville is making a difference around the holidays after giving her birthday presents to a family in need.
Olivia Legge chose to donate all of the presents she received at her birthday party to a family with a 7-year-old boy and 2-year-old girl, who lost their home to a fire Friday night.
Her mother, Krista Legge, says Olivia was quick to get on board after they sat down and explained the situation to her. They told her that, unfortunately, some presents had been burned in the fire.
The words were not even out of their mouths before Olivia said “Mommy, daddy, I don’t need any presents; I have lots of stuff. Let’s give my presents to the little boy and girl.”
Legge says they opened the party up to the community, and had about 30 kids show up along with others from the community.
She says when all was said and done, she raised $535, plus got extra gift cards to a grocery store and Wal-Mart, as well as a large number of presents that will be given to the family.
Legge says Olivia was overjoyed when presents kept coming in.
