Conciliated contract talks between Vale and unionized workers at the Voisey’s Bay mine in Labrador have broken down.
The Steelworkers Union says it is disappointed by what they call Vale’s refusal to engage in “serious” negotiations with workers.
Steelworkers spokesman Boyd Bussey says bargaining began in February but they haven’t been able to get the company to negotiate seriously on any of their key issues.
Talks broke down despite the appointment of a provincial conciliation officer.
Union membership meetings are planned in the near future to discuss the status of negotiations.
