The family of Cortney Lake will be holding a special public tree lighting in her memory later this week in Mount Pearl.
The 24-year-old was murdered in June. She was last seen June 7th getting into a pickup belonging to her former boyfriend, Phillip Smith.
Police say at this stage in the investigation, Smith, who was found dead November 1st, is the only suspect in the case.
Lake’s body has not yet been recovered.
Her family issued a statement today says that a tree lighting ceremony will take place Thursday evening, December 14 at 6:15 p.m. at St. David’s Park in Mount Pearl.
“Cortney’s Tree”, adorned with purple lights, will remain lit throughout the Christmas season in her memory and serve as a reminder of the impact of violence against women.
A special presentation will also be made to the St. John’s Women’s Centre.
