For the first time in it’s history, the Newfoundland and Labrador Court of Appeal is live-streaming a case from inside the courtroom today.
The appeal involves a conviction for armed robbery and a six-year sentence for break, entry and theft, and whether a statement made to police should have been admitted during the case.
The initiative is an effort of the justice department to make the Courts more accessible and teach people about how the justice system works in the province.
Justice Minister Andrew Parsons says Newfoundland and Labrador has to do a better job of showing the public how the courts work. If all goes well, more future court hearings may go online.
