People who live in a small town in the Codroy Valley say it’s only a matter of time before somebody is killed in a car crash on a sharp turn which has a wooden plank as a safety barrier.
A young man from Hamilton, Ontario ended up trapped in his vehicle for 90 minutes Saturday night while waiting for rescuers from the Port aux Basques Fire Department 30 miles away, all the while pinned upside down in his car in a brook. Brenda Roberts and her husband, who live in nearby Millville, rushed to the scene after hearing the crash and called 9-1-1.
Brenda says that was the fourth crash in the past two years on the sharp unlit turn. She says the wooden barrier is inadequate and signage warning drivers of the hairpin curve almost non-existent.
She says putting up a few plastic cones won’t solve the problem. She says somebody is going to lose their life one of these days.
