Environment Minister Perry Trimper has decided that his initial decision to release Grieg’s proposed aquaculture development from further environmental assessment in Placentia Bay will stand.
The minister made the initial decision back in July, but it was appealed.
In a release sent out today the Environment Department says Trimper has considered the appeal documents and has determined that the original decision to release the project from further environmental assessment will remain in effect.
While the project is expected to reap great economic benefits for the Marystown region, environmentalists and salmon advocates have raised serious concerns about the potential impact on wild salmon stocks.
