  • DFO Releases Dates, Details on 2018 Food Fishery

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has released the dates for the 2018 recreational ground fishery.

The food fishery will be open for a total of 39 days this year, down from 46 days in 2017.

The summer season’s fishery will be open from Saturday to Monday every weekend until September 3. One major difference from last year is the removal of a three-week period in late July, when fishers were allowed to fish every day.

The fall fishery will run from Saturday, September 22 to Sunday, September 30.

There is no requirement for licences or tags.

Anglers are limited to five fish per day—including cod. However, the maximum boat limit when three or more people are fishing is 15 groundfish.
