Fishing violations on the province’s salmon rivers this year were on par with previous years.
DFO says fisheries officers and river guardians regularly patrol and monitor both open and closed rivers during the summer. That effort resulted in the inspection of over 4,100 anglers.
136 violations were recorded—just eight more than last year—including 41 illegal nets located and removed.
DFO Senior Compliance Officer, Daryl Walsh says illegal netting continues to be one of the main concerns for enforcement.
He says nine people were charged in connection with salmon netting, with a number of people jigging or attempting to jig salmon also charged.
