  • Driver Swerves Off Highway Avoiding Moose

Gander RCMP say a man who left the scene of a single vehicle accident on the TCH this morning is OK after swerving to avoid a moose.

Police received word of the accident about 7:30 this morning. It happened at the intersection or Cooper Bouvelard and the Trans-Canada Highway.

A minivan left the highway, and went down over a steep embankment. A portion of the guard rail went down with the minivan.

RCMP say when they arrived at the scene, there wasn’t anybody in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed a 41-year-old man from Gander had lost control of the van when he swerved to avoid striking the moose.

He sustained minor injuries as a result.
