  • Drivers Cautioned of Increased Caribou and Moose Presence

Calving season means drivers should be extra cautious on the roads over the coming weeks, especially in the St. Anthony and Howley areas.

The Department of Fisheries and Land Resources says caribou are migrating from wintering areas and drivers can expect to see them close to or crossing the roads.

In the meantime, moose are driving off last year’s calves, meaning that young inexperienced moose may end up on or near the roads – especially around dawn and dusk.

Drivers are reminded to continually scan both sides of the highway when travelling, and pay attention to moose and caribou warning signs.
