  • Easter Seals NL Unveils Jeremy Cross Memorial Playground

Easter Seals House in St. John’s is now home to the most accessible playground east of Montreal.

The Jeremy Cross Memorial Playground is an all-encompassing and inclusive space for children and families with and without disabilities. It includes swings, monkey bars and a pirate ship accessible to all levels. The playground is set on cushy ground mats, a feature much appreciated for those who use a wheelchair.

The playground is named after Jeremy Cross, a former staff member and client of Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador, who passed away in 2015.

Cross’s friend and caregiver, Amy Furey says the idea came from Cross’s vision for an accessible play space close to the Husky Energy Easter Seals House.

Easter Seals NL CEO Mark Bradbury says the close proximity of the playground is key. The set up is directly behind the Husky Energy Easter Seals House on Mount Scio Road. Bradbury says it’s important to be close when it comes to getting clients outside on nice days.
