  • Electricity Rate Protest Returns to PUB Office

    People gathered at the Public Utilities Board this morning to show their opposition to the rising cost of electricity.

    Close to 20 people situated themselves in front of the PUB office on Torbay Road this morning.

    Jennie Roberts of St John’s says she doesn’t know where the money will come from in her budget to cover an increase in rates. She lives on a fixed government income of approximately $1200 a month.

    Roberts opens up and reveals she is currently going through personal bankruptcy. She’s very concerned about her future and well-being.

    Roberts says things get much harder in the winter. She is also a diabetic and relies on the food bank. She says she is at risk of becoming homeless.
