  • Fallen Officers Remembered at 20th Annual Memorial Service

The 20th Annual Police and Peace Officer’s Memorial service brought together many professionals working on the Justice System to remember those lost today.

The service, held at Seventh Day Adventist Church for the last two decades, brings together all sectors of provincial enforcement to remember the lives of fallen colleges who were killed in the line of duty.

Members of the RNC, RCMP, Highway Enforcement, Forestry and Wildlife Officers and Corrections Officers were joined by family and friends of those lost, for the nondenominational service.

The service was punctuated with a moment of silence, that followed a reading of the names of 20 fallen officers—the earliest of which dates back to 1861.

RNC Chief Joe Boland brought greetings to service for the first time since taking on the role as Chief of Police. He says the service is a significant annual event.

Boland says the event is a time for reflection, and it reminds officers that the work they do can be extremely dangerous. Boland says it is sobering at times to attend the service, but he feels it is an important part of respecting the job.
