  • Firearm Used in Murder of Man in Labrador City

The RNC say a firearm was used in the murder of a man in Labrador City early this morning.

30-year-old Vincent Ward was arrested on the scene. Police are still working to identify the victim.

Police were called to a home on Pine Avenue in the town after a report that two men were involved in an altercation.

When officers arrived, a man was found dead inside the home, and they arrested and charged Ward—who was on the scene—with murder.

RNC Constable Geoff Higdon says investigative teams from St. John’s and Corner Brook are on their way to Lab West to assist in the investigation. Police are working with the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death and positively identify the victim.

Police say they do believe that the victim and accused were known to one another and there is no risk to public safety.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RNC at (709) 944-7602 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
