  • Fisheries Minister Says Priority Transitioning Back to Groundfish

The Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources is pleased with the first Fisheries Advisory Council meeting held in St. John’s this week.

The Council was formed as part of the Liberal Government’s Way Forward plan with the goal of developing a strategy for the province’s seafood industry.

Fisheries Minister Gerry Byrne says Thursday’s meeting was a major success and they’ve already decided on their number one priority.

He says natural resources are what drive the long-term success of the province’s economy and the most important issue for the industry is beginning a transition to groundfish and the cod fishery specifically.
