The NLC says there will be greater access to legal cannabis in this province with the addition of five new potential locations.
The liquor authority launched a Request for Proposals earlier this year to start businesses on the path to becoming licensed retailers. As a result, 24 qualified applicants were named in early May.
However, after gaps in coverage were noticed, NLC launched a second phase of RFPs for specific regions—the results of which were announced today.
Thirteen proposals were reviewed, and of those, five potential locations were added to the list: one each in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Port-aux-Basques, Rocky Harbour, Bonavista and Marystown.
The proposals were submitted by Canopy Growth and Burin-based Oceanic Releaf.
While the applicants are not yet fully licensed, NLC says more than 85 per cent of the province’s population is currently lined up to be within 50 kilometres of a licensed cannabis retailer.
