  • Galway Hitmen Secure Win in Heated Fastpitch Gold Medal Match

The Galway Hitmen have once again emerged victorious at the Canadian Men’s Senior Fastpitch Championships in Nova Scotia.

They won Gold in St. Croix, Nova Scotia yesterday, their sixth national championship victory, after coach Ryan Boland hit a walk off Grand Slam to defeat the BC Loggers 8-0 in five innings.

The Hitmen dominated the Loggers 7-0 in Saturday evening’s game, which turned out to be a testy affair.

Former Premier Steps on Field During ‘Row’

There were two bench-clearing incidents, but despite local coverage that suggested there was a “row” on the field in which Hitmen owner and former premier Danny Williams was involved, team officials tell VOCM News that categorization was not accurate. No punches were thrown, and Williams simply stood on the field with the players.

The team finished the tournament a perfect 9 and 0, outscoring their opponents 68-2. Ryan Boland was named Playoff MVP as he went 2 for 3 in the final win. Boland also hit a walk-off grand slam in the gold medal game.
