The Gathering Place is looking for donations over the Christmas season.
Executive Director Joanne Thompson says they have orders for 1,200 gift bags, and most of those have not been donated yet.
Guest numbers have almost doubled since last year, and people need socks, warm winter hats and gloves, and toiletries. Thompson says so many things most people take for granted are things guests at the Gathering Place won’t have an opportunity to buy or receive as gifts.
There is an event with Santa Claus on Tuesday, but Thompson says they will give many gifts to people in January when many guests return to the Gathering Place.
She says Christmas is painful for many guests, and they will often not come around during the holidays, but they will still receive their gift in January.
You can drop donations of socks, hats, gloves, deodorant, toothpaste and other gifts at The Gathering Place from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday to Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
