  • Gerry Rogers Stepping Down as Leader of NL NDP

The NDP is between a rock and a hard place after news that their leader won’t be running in the next election.

Gerry Rogers walked into the lobby of Confederation Building with a couple of dozen supporters on hand.

She won the leadership over Allison Coffin only ten months ago, but during a week’s vacation decided to step back. She will stay on as leader until a replacement is found. The party executive had no idea this was coming.

The St. John’s Centre MHA, who is 62, says she is in excellent health but cannot commit to another four years.

She says it’s important to have the diversity of the population sitting at the table where decisions are made.
