It’s early days, but a Halifax-based lawyer is looking into the possibility of pursuing a class-action lawsuit related to the recent flooding in Mud Lake, Labrador.
Residents of the community were forced to evacuate last month when water levels on the Churchill River suddenly and dramatically rose.
Many pointed the finger at the Muskrat Falls project, saying they’d never encountered such dramatic flooding in their lives.
Ray Wagner says some 20 people came out to a public information session in Happy Valley-Goose Bay yesterday despite short notice.
He says people want answers and compensation for their losses. He says early indications are that the flooding may have been caused by Muskrat Falls.
He says no final decisions have yet been made, but he wanted to let residents know what options are available to them.
One of those options, he says, is a class action lawsuit on behalf of residents who have been affected by the flooding.
