  • Hebron Project Pumps First Oil

ExxonMobil employees and co-venturers involved in the Hebron Project gathered to announce the milestone of first oil today at the St. John’s convention centre.

Offshore Installation Manager Paul Dwyer made the announcement official during a video call from the platform to the Onshore support centre located at ExxonMobil offices at Cabot Place in St. John’s. Dwyer says the platform began pumping oil at 11:03 a.m. on November 27.

President of ExxonMobil Canada, Carman Mullins says the project is expected to have a 30-year lifespan and will draw on a reservoir with 700-million barrels of oil. Mullins is reluctant to reveal the magic number oil must sell at in order for the project to remain viable.

Mullins says the price of oil is not a measure they use to gauge success. She says ExxonMobil is concerned with keeping the basin competitive in order to continue further developments in NL’s Offshore.
