Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro is looking to modify diesel generators located at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Station.
The six generators, which were installed in January of 2014, were used to help alleviate power shortages during the winter of 2016.
The project will improve the ability to operate the generators to meet peak demand when needed and as possible backup.
The changes required involve adding new exhaust stacks on each generator and connecting them to a new diesel fuel storage tank to be erected near the mobile trailer enclosures. The project is now registered for environmental assessment.
The deadline for public comment is July 20th with the minister’s decision due July 24th.
