  • Jacksonville Puts Leash on Growlers’ Eight-Game Win Streak

The Jacksonville Icemen shut out the Newfoundland Growlers 2-0 last night in Florida, ending the Growlers eight-game win streak.

Kris Newbury, a former St. John’s Maple Leaf, slipped a rebound past Growlers goaltender Michael Garteig at the 4:57 mark of the second period, for what would be the game-winning goal.

However, the Icemen strengthened their win with a second goal after Garteig caught an errant puck, but fell back into the Growlers’ cage before the play was halted. Maxime Fortier was awarded the goal after a short discussion.

This game marks the first ever shutout against the Growlers.

The Newfoundland Growlers continue on their five-game road trip this Friday, versus the Orlando Solar Bears.
