A local hotelier is looking to expand his operations in the downtown.

John Steele of Steele Hotels says they’ve purchased the John Howard Society Building, and the buildings that currently house The Seed Company, and Technip to expand the JAG boutique hotel.

He says they’re in the process of putting together their plans.

Steele says they’ll work with the city on the expansion that will include 70 to 80 extra rooms and a ball room/ multipurpose room.

He says they’re investigating all options when it comes to how to develop the land on the other side of Buchanan Street.

Steele says they’re considering a number of possibilities including approaching the city about purchasing the street or developing a pedway.

He says there is a lot of demand for JAG and they want to meet that demand. Steele says it’s all about growing the business.

Meanwhile, the Seed Company by EW Gaze is assuring customers that it is not closing its doors following the purchase of its building by John Steele.

Owner Peter Byrne says the purchase was an opportunity for them to find another location in the centre city region that is better suited to meet the needs of their growing business.
