Independent MHA Paul Lane has made a request himself for the Auditor General to review the books at Nalcor. VOCM’s David Maher reports.
Lane says he wrote Premier Dwight Ball back on July 6th asking him to set the AG loose on Nalcor, but didn’t receive any reply. Lane then looked into the matter himself, and learned that the Premier doesn’t have to direct the Office of the Auditor General about what they look into.
In a letter from Lane to Terry Paddon, Lane asks for a review of Nalcor’s board and management structure, the payment of upper level management, a review into why bonuses were paid to executives in the wake of DarkNL, and a review of all the contracts relating to Muskrat Falls. Lane also wants Paddon to review whether any conflict of interest existed with Finance Minister Cathy Bennett during her time as Nalcor Board Chair.
Lane says it’s been quite a while since such a review was last conducted into Nalcor’s operations. He says he’s hopeful Paddon will consider his request and restore the confidence of the people in Nalcor.
