A Newfoundland resident is coming home from the 2019 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championships in Japan with a gold medal around her neck.
Shailynn Snow of Clarke’s Beach and Team Canada defeated the United States 3-2 in overtime early Sunday morning to capture gold at the hockey tournament for the first time in five years.

Snow was held pointless throughout the tournament but finished with an even plus/minus rating.
She will return to Toronto tonight alongside a number of teammates before heading back to Ridley College in Saint Catherines, Ontario, where she is the captain of her team.
