The number of lost-time incidents in the workplace due to assaults and violent acts increased in the province last year.
That’s according to WorkplaceNL which released it’s statistics on injuries in the workplace yesterday.
While most lost-time injury incidence rates dropped, the number of lost-time incidents due to assaults and violent acts increased to 8.9 per 10,000 workers in 2016 from 7.6 in 2015.
Workplace injury or illness rates in the province have remained at an all-time low set last year at 1.5 per 100 workers.
Last year there were 13-work-related fatalities in 2016, including eight from occupational disease. There were 24 in 2015, 17 of which were from occupational illness.
The lost-time incidence rate among young workers also fell to 1.3 per 100 workers from 1.4 the year before.
