  • Major Changes to Province’s Major Crimes Unit

Some major changes are being made to the way police investigate major crime in the province.

For the last five years the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit—made up of officers from the RCMP and RNC—has investigated serious crimes like gang activity, major drug investigations and child exploitation.

That structure is now changing. Effective October 17, officers currently assigned to CFSEU will be redeployed within the RCMP and RNC to target specific crimes.

RCMP Superintendent Garrett Woolsey and RNC Chief Joe Boland outlined the changes at RNC Headquarters over the lunch hour.

Some of the CFSEU’s officers will form a new Drug Unit within the RNC to combat street level illegal drugs and associated crime, while others will be deployed to RCMP federal policing to combat serious and organized crime.

The Internet Child Exploitation team will remain intact and officers from both forces will work as an integrated unit.
